The Great Himalayan National Park (GHNP) houses many trails to attract hiking enthusiasts. One of these scenic treks is to Rangthar, which is a flat topped camping site on a ridge. Located in the eco-zone of GHNP (at an altitude of 2860m), it gives you a panoramic view of the majestic snow clad Himalayan ranges and GHNP across the Tirthan valley.
It was the 3rd day of our 4-day North Sikkim trip and we were out to visit the Valley of Flowers, Yumthang Valley. Today there was no hurry in starting the trip, as was on the previous day (Gurudongmar Lake trip). So we had our breakfast in our hotel at Lachung and started the journey at about 8:15 am. On our way to Lachen when Pimpi (our driver for North Sikkim tour, Pimpa Bhutia) told us that we need to start our journey next day at 3 in the morning, we jokingly said shouldn’t we start at 1 o’clock. But he was serious, and we got our first shock in the trip on the first day itself.
